Men with erectile dysfunction have the potential to lead to more sexual activity, according to new research. They may be more likely to be prescribed a Viagra pill compared to Viagra or similar medications like Kamagra, the study reported Tuesday.

In the first study, researchers reviewed data from 1,400 men to determine the factors that contribute to a man's sexual performance and found that men who had used Viagra, like men in other sexual partners, had higher rates of erectile dysfunction, compared to those who didn't use Viagra.

"Viagra, or the sildenafil citrate used to treat angina, has been found to be effective for most men, and it has been shown to be safe and well-tolerated," Dr. Jonathan S. Schmitt, a of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, told Business Insider.

Schmitt said in a statement that he believes that "the most important of these men is not a man with erectile dysfunction, and men with erectile dysfunction are the most likely to use these medications."

The study, which was co-funded by the National Institute of Health, the National Institute on Aging and the National Institutes of Health, is intended to help men understand and treat erectile dysfunction.

Schmitt said that men with erectile dysfunction can take Viagra, or the generic sildenafil citrate, or the brand-name Viagra, and talk to their doctor about the risks and benefits of taking the medication. However, the study authors did not say how often Viagra or the generic versions of sildenafil would be taken, but said that it's still possible that Viagra and Viagra may interact with other medications in certain people.

Viagra's most common side effect is flushing, which is a redness or warmth in the face, neck or chest, Schmitt said.

Viagra, the generic sildenafil citrate, is also effective for treating high blood pressure and pulmonary arterial hypertension, which is the leading cause of death in men with the condition. It's also used off-label to treat chest pain, and has been shown to be safe and well-tolerated.

In the study, men who took Viagra or its generic version were more likely to have erectile dysfunction than men who didn't take the medication.

The researchers also found that men who took Viagra or similar medications like Kamagra, the brand-name Viagra, also had a higher risk of developing erectile dysfunction compared to men who didn't take the medication.

The researchers also looked at men with at least a 40-milligram dose of Viagra in their blood. Men who took the drug, which was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1998, had a 25 percent higher risk of developing erectile dysfunction.

They also looked at men who had a combination of Viagra and another erectile dysfunction drug called sildenafil, also known as Viagra Connect.

"Erectile dysfunction is a common problem that affects a large number of men worldwide," Schmitt said in a statement. "We will continue to use data from this study to improve the safety and efficacy of the treatment."

Schmitt said the new study will be important because it will help men who need Viagra or similar medications to find the safest and most effective way to treat erectile dysfunction.

The study was funded by the National Institute of Health, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Institute on Aging.

Possible side effects of using sildenafil citrate in erectile dysfunction drugs include dizziness, headache, flushing of the skin, and indigestion.

Sildenafil citrate, the active ingredient in Viagra and Cialis, has been reported to interact with sildenafil and nitrates, particularly with sildenafil and tadalafil. Nitrates may reduce the effectiveness of sildenafil citrate.

Sildenafil citrate is the active ingredient of the popular Viagra. It was first approved for use in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in 1998, and the following years, sildenafil citrate was approved in over 100 countries.

Other PDE5 inhibitors are currently being studied in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men, including sildenafil citrate. However, sildenafil citrate is not approved for this use.

Some of the side effects of sildenafil citrate, including headache, flushing, and indigestion, can be mild and go away within a few hours.

In a study of people with erectile dysfunction, more than half of men taking sildenafil citrate reported a decrease in sexual desire, although sexual desire is a subjective and not a primary condition.

Some side effects of sildenafil citrate may include chest pain, dizziness, and nausea.

If you or a loved one is taking sildenafil citrate or any other PDE5 inhibitor, please do not hesitate to call us to schedule your next visit.
